Modeling Biological Phenomenon Mathematically

  • Prof. Parthasarathy Srinivasan, Department of Mathematics, Cleveland State University, United States

We present a few mathematical models that describe various biological phenomena. One of them is the honey bee nest-site selection process, where we describe the interesting methods by which honey bees select new nesting sites.
Another problem discussed are ways in which cross-contamination may occur in industrial scale food produce, so that adequate measures can be taken to prevent it.
The talk will also outline some of the motifs that show up in seemingly different biological problems, and present challenges that occur in obtaining precise quantitative models.
