Abstract :

This talk will be an introduction to the subject of p-adic numbers. We will approach the topic from an analytic perspective. However, as we will proceed through the talk, we will realize the need to consider the algebraic aspects of the subject as well. We will also compare the results of analogous nature obtained in the case of real numbers and p-adic numbers. If time permits, we may also look at the topology of p-adic field.

Prerequisites: A first course in analysis and topology.
