Iterative methods: Starting with an initial guess, say x₀and generating a sequence   x₁, x₂, x₃, . . . recursively from any relation is called an Iterative method.
 

Convergence : Any iterative process defined by x_i+1= g(x_i), i = 0, 1, 2, . . . is said to be convergent for the initial guess x₀ if the corresponding sequence x₁, x₂, x₃, . . . converges.
