The following is from the book on Real Numbers by LW Cohen and G. Ehrlich:
“The present course on Mathematical education in school and college introduces the
various properties of integers, rational numbers and real numbers to a student as
they are needed for arithmetic, algebra, geometry and calculus. When the student
begins the graduate study, he finds that he is expected to be familiar with the structure
of the real number system... Actually, this assumption is frequently false and a gap is
left in the student’s knowledge, if not filled, hinders his development”. With this in
mind, let us attempt to re-look at Natural numbers using Peano’s Axioms. Needless
to mention that there is not enough time for detailed proofs.
