A brief introduction to Haar measure

  • Shanti Ranjan Das, Research Scholar, Department of Mathematics, IITM

One of the most important properties of the Lebesgue measure on $\mathbb{R}$ is "translation invariance". One would like to do the same sort of thing for any topological group $G$. This gives rise to the concept of Haar measure on locally compact topological groups. We will discuss several properties of Haar measure together with some examples.
We will start with basic definitions to introduce and motivate the Haar measure.
