Finite precision computations - an asset to computational physics and machine learning

  • Dr. Sivaram Ambikasaran (Department of Mathematics, IIT Madras)

This talk will discuss how finite precision computations have played and continue to play an imperative role in development of algorithms for computational physics and machine learning problems. We will look at how the Fast Multipole Method and Hierarchical matrices have revolutionized computational physics and machine learning in obtaining linear scaling algorithms.
