Commutator of a Group

  • Subhajit Chanda, Research Scholar, Department of Mathematics, IIT Madras

The commutator subgroup is important because it is the smallest normal subgroup such that the quotient group of the original group by this subgroup is abelian. The commutator subgroup can be viewed as a functor on the category of groups. For this we will try to understand the basic category theory. We will also try to see one simple example. The talk will be very basic and so no prerequisite will be needed.
