Abstract :

Recently Y.Meyer has been awarded Abel prize (2017) for "his pivotal role in the development of mathematical theory of wavelets." For the past twenty five years, wavelet analysis has been applied to diversified areas of Science and Technology including medical imaging. The aim of the talk is to give an outline of Meyer's contributions to the mathematical theory of wavelets, discuss its influence in mathematical sampling theory and mention a few applications.
