We know that a classical solution of a PDE may not always exist. So, we need to generalize the notion of a solution of a PDE, which is weaker in some sense and we call it “weak solution”. For this, we need to generalize the notion of differentiable functions and from this generalization, we will have another class of function spaces, known as ‘Sobolev spaces’, named after a Russian mathematician Sergei Sobolev. In this talk we will briefly discuss a weak derivative, a weak solution of a PDE and an eigenvalue problem.
