Abstract :

The theory of species of structures in combinatorics is a category theory view point of the formal power series ring of generating functions. Once we get a handle on this, many proofs can be reduced to pictorial proofs. We introduce the algebra of the specieses and use it to derive the Cayley's Formula on the number of labelled trees. Time permitting we will look at some more examples.
